Boyka Velkova

Graduated from The Higher Institute of Theatre Arts "Kr. Sarafov" in 1983 in the class of Prof. Dimitrina Gyurova. She later studied at The Lee Strasberg Institute in New York.

She specialized in directing in the class of Prof. Kama Ginkas in 2016 in St. Petersburg, master's degree in directing in the class of Prof. Chavdar Krastev at The Southwest University "Neofit Rilski" (2015-2016) as a full-time student, master's degree in directing with Prof. Krasimir Spasov in The National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts "Kr. Sarafov" (NATFA) as an observer (2013-2015).

She has performed in Rousse Drama Theatre, Plovdiv Drama Theatre, Sofia Theatre, "Tears and Laughter" Theatre, and Theatre Bulgarian Army. Among her more important roles are: Agafya in "Marriage" by Nikolai Gogol, Helena Andreyevna in "Uncle Vanya", Olga in "Three Sisters", Arkadina in "The Seagull" by A. Chekhov, Estelle in "No Exit" by Jean-Paul Sartre, Tamar in "Yonadab" by Peter Shaffer, Viola in "Twelfth Night" by William Shakespeare, May in "Fool for Love" by Sam Shepard, Madame Therbouche in "The Libertine" by Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt, Martha in "Who is Afraid of Virginia Woolf" by Edward Albee, Mrs Cheveley in "An Ideal Husband" by Oscar Wilde, Blanche in "A Streetcar Named Desire" by Tennessee Williams, Mrs Robinson in the "The Graduate" by Terry Johnson, etc.

Since 2010 she has been in the troupe of Ivan Vazov National Theatre where her roles are: Dora in "Two" by Tanya Shahova, Mary Tyrone in "Long Day’s Journey into Night" by Eugene O'Neill, Stevie in "The Goat, or Who is Sylvia?" by Edward Albee, Queen Elizabeth I in "The Color of Deep Waters" by Olya Stoyanova, as well as her original work "The Road To Aphrodite" after Isabel Allende.

Winner of many theatrical awards including Icarus Award 1999 for Olga in "Three Sisters", ASKEER Award 2000 for Elena Andreyevna in "Uncle Vanya", ASKEER Award 2005 for Mrs Robinson in "The Graduate" and Icarus Award 2008 for Arkadina in "The Seagull".
