Alexander Tonev graduated in Acting for Dramatic Theatre from NATFA "Krastyu Sarafov" in 2019, under the mentorship of Professor Ivan Dobchev. In the same year, he became a member of the troupe at Drama Theatre "Konstantin Velichkov" in Pazardzhik, where he performed until 2023.
Over the years, he has performed on the stages of the National Theatre "Ivan Vazov", Theatre Workshop "Sfumato", Sofia Theatre, and Theatre 199. Some of the most memorable roles he has played include: Mikhail Platonov in Planoff by A. Chekhov, directed by Margarita Mladenova and Ivan Dobchev, and Prince Myshkin in The Idiot by F. M. Dostoevsky, directed by Margarita Mladenova at Theatre Workshop "Sfumato"; Khlestakov in The Inspector General by N. V. Gogol, directed by Gero Ashikyan, and Romeo in Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, directed by G. Antonov at Drama Theatre "Konstantin Velichkov" – Pazardzhik.
He has also appeared in the feature film The Blessed by director Stanimir Trifonov, as well as in the short films August 13 – directed by Ventsislav Sariev, and Hunger – directed by Petar Krumov. He is also known from television, having appeared in the series The Demon’s Autumn – directed by Pavel Vesnakov.
He received the IKAR Award in 2021 for Best Supporting Male Role for his role as Sancho Panza in the play Don Quixote by director Margarita Mladenova at Drama Theatre "Konstantin Velichkov" – Pazardzhik.
He was nominated for an Askeer Award in 2024 for Best Leading Male Role for his role as Mikhail Platonov in Planoff by A. Chekhov, directed by Margarita Mladenova and Ivan Dobchev, at Theatre Workshop "Sfumato."
