ROBERT WILSON: IT IS A PRIVILEGE TO STAGE AT THE NATIONAL THEATRE

“It is an immense privilege to direct a production at Ivan Vazov National Theatre and I really appreciate the invite to work in Bulgaria for this particular stage. I am so excited!”Mr Robert Wilson, an internationally acclaimed American director said on his second day in this country. He is in Bulgaria for the final weeks of rehearsals for Shakespeare’s The Tempest, to premiere on 18, 19 November 2021 on the Grand Stage.

It is the renowned visual artist’s second visit to Bulgaria, following the casting two years ago and in June this year for one-month rehearsals.

At a business dinner last night with Mr Marius Donkin, Director of the National Theatre, Mr Robert Wilson thanked all the services at the theatre, joining the theatrical processes, for their efforts and diligence to be part of the most eagerly anticipated premiere of the season.

In the meanwhile, NT’s director, Mr Marius Donkin held a meeting with Her Excellency Eleonora Mitrofanova, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Bulgaria, to discuss cultural relations between the two countries. It later transpired that the Alexandrinsky Theatre would be visiting in 2022 and its Artistic Director Valery Fokin, is expected to direct a production at the National Theatre in 2023.

The National Theatre is supposed to take part in the International Theatre Olympics 2022 in Saint Petersburg.
