The Theatre welcomes viewers with a new bilingual site, shows with subtitles and tourist walks
Top theatre directors like Diana Dobreva, Ivan Panteleev and Marius Kurkinski are commissioned to work during the new season in the National Theatre "Ivan Vazov", which officially starts today, on 13th September.
On a press conference today, the Managing Director Marius Donkin, who has commenced the fourth year of service since he took over, pinpointed the main accents of another ambitious season of the National theatre.
On 27th September in the Chamber hall the first premiere of the season will take place- "WHATEVER WILL BE WILL BE" by Nedyalko Yordanov. Cast includes EMILIA RADEVA, ZHANINA KASHEVA, IVAN NALBANTOV, ZHORZHETA CHAKAROVA, LYUBOMIR MLADENOV, PLAMENA GETOVA, BOGDAN GLYSHEV, RUTH RAFAILOVA, SAVA PIPEROV, EVA TEPAVICHAROVA and HRISTO TERZIEV.
On 29th September and 2nd October will be the premiere of "Nice Fish" by Mark Rylance and Luis Jenkins on the Main stage. The performance is directed by Ivaylo Hristov and the cast includes Marin Yanev, Stefan Mavrodiev, Stoyan Alexiev, Elena Telbis and Plamen Dimov.
Today started the rehearsal process of Andre Rousin’s play „A Polite Lady in a Bad Company (a comedy with murders)“/”Nina”. Director is Yuriy Dachev and the cast includes Emanouela Shkodreva, Pavel Ivanov, Krastio Lafazanov and Vassil Draganov. The premiere is scheduled for the 7th November in the Chamber hall. The translation of the play is made by Svetlana Pancheva, set and costume designer is Radina Bliznakova, composer is Assen Avramov.
Unfortunately, the "Orpheus" project, which was supposed to be put on stage by the world-famous Slovenian director Jernei Lorenzi this autumn, will not take place, said Marius Donkin. "I hope everything in his family is going well and we will succeed in completing the project within a year-and-a-half," clarified Donkin.
This change in the schedule opens the door for DIANA DOBREVA’s new project, who will further announce the name of her future performance.
Between 5th and 10th December on "Apostol Karamitev" stage will take place the openning of "WAGER" playing Maria Stefanova, directеd by Stefan Spassov. Тhe legendary actress returned to the stage of the National theatre after 25 years of absence in "Three Tall Women" by Edward Albee, by the invitation of director Stefan Spassov and Marius Donkin. She is also starring in "My Old Lady" by Israel Horovitz, directed by Stiliyan Petrov.
The year 2020 will open with the long-awaited January premiere of the monodrama "Cry of an Angel" by Stefan Tsanev on "Apostol Karamitev" stage. The show is directed by Martin Kisselov, and the complex doubtful and disturbed character, created by the poet, will be interpreted by Valery Yordanov.
February 2020 will be marked with the return of the director IVAN PANTELEEV on the Main stage. "Useless Men", which he put on our Main stage, after 20 years of working abroad, is highly appreciated by the theatre critics and the audience, and generously awarded. The title of the new project will be further communicated.
Another forthcoming opening in February next year, in the Chamber hall, is "UNCLE VANYA" by Anton P. Chehov. The director is Nikolay Lambrev-Mihaylovsky.
A month later the premiere of a show, directed by MARIUS KURKINSKI, is expected. He will most likely put "Masquerade" by Mikhail Lermontov to fulfill his professional aspirations, said Marius Donkin.
Next year, on "Apostol Karamitev" stage Katya Petrova will direct "The LINE of LIFE" written by the Repertory Director Mirela Ivanova.
The start of the season in the National Theater is marked with the onset of the all-new bilingual internet site (Bulgarian and English). It is now available to users, with an extremely responsive design, which makes it possible to purchase tickets in less than a minute. "The site is secured and easy to navigate for a quick purchase of tickets and reference", clarified our Communication expert Todor Penev.
The project to produce English subtitles for all performances in the repertoire rolls out on 1st October, thus providing the opportunity for non-Bulgarian speakers to visit our performances. The first one to be played with subtitles is "The Follies of a Day" by Beaumarchais on the Main stage on 3rd October, and among the other shows with subtitles are "An Attempt to Fly", "Useless Men", "Life is Wonderful" and "The Father".
On 1st November kicks off the project for special tourist walks in the building of the National theatre. Thus, our National theatre will reveal the long story of its existence behind its beautiful façade in the tradition of many European theatres. The walks will be organized every Monday between 10 and 12 am, in groups of 14 people. Details will be communicated later. One of the tour guides will be the Archive and Museum Officer Maria Dayeva.
Last but not least, the Technical manager Emil Markov announced that by the end of November the seats in the Chamber hall will be fully replaced. The new chairs will have a new more stable base, will be newly upholstered and more ergonomic.
