In 1904, the first-ever play to be staged in the National Theatre was “Hashove”. With it was celebrated the theater’s 50-year anniversary in 1954. The anniversary hundredth season (2004 – 2005), Vazov's immortal work was again on the stage, directed by Alexander Morfov. Far from home, alone in a strange city, not desperate vagrants or paupers, but proud and freedom-loving, bums – for the elite, heroes – for the oppressed and the humiliated. On the stage in a strange city, the Hashove are enthusiastically playing their own performance – a general rehearsal for the true one, the one that will follow. The showdown in which they will find their death and together with the freedom for their people will gain free terrain and for the dragged Black souls.
